PINEWOOD DERBY SPECIFICATIONS

BSA Stock Chasis 

  • Wheel base - measure between axles - 4  5/16 inches
  • Axle depth 1/8 inch
  • Axle width - 1 3/4 inches
  • Car length - Maximum 7 inches
  • Car width - Maximum 2 3/4 inches
  • Track clearance 3/8 inches (1/8 inch clear center guide rail) with 1/4 inch center guide rail height
  • Weight cavity 5/16 inch deep in front of rear axle maintains clean aerodynamic weighting of car. Cavity position maintains approximate balance of car at 1 1/2 inches in front of rear axle.  This placement of weight maximizes velocity as well as minimizing vibration or wobble in front of car as speed increases.  

BSA specifications are the standard in Pinewood derby racing.  Most clubs use these  guidlines.  Others may have specific restrictions and still others have no restrictions other than fitting in the 7 inch box.  It is always  good to check your clubs regulations.  Pinemasters cars hold strict BSA specifications so no one is disqualified at some point in the competition. 

 

EXHIBITION CARS

Occasionally Pinemasters will build exhibition cars.  These cars will be clearly identified as such with specifications.
